Frequently asked questions.
-
Surfskate training in the bowl allows you to develop correct technique of manoeuvres through repetition in a controlled environment. It enables you to develop solid foundations without overwhelm and fast-tracks your surfing.
-
Due to different types of movement required for skill development in the bowl, age does play a factor. If your child has surfing or skating experience, around age 6 would be the lower age limit. If your child has no previous experience, 8-9 years of age is ideal (depending on the child), utilising the private session starter packs. A one-off group class is not suitable for a complete beginner with no previous experience.
-
You don’t need previous skate experience however it does help. If you are a beginner/low intermediate surfer, it is recommended that your first class (minimum) is private. The Starter Pack private sessions are a great option for this.

We can determine if private coaching or a starter pack is right for you and lock in a time and date for your first session. -
Yes absolutely. While the surfskate bowl is designed to help people improve their surf manoeuvers and technique, surfskating is a fun way to get a feel for body movement, balance and control which are all great skills to develop surfing as a beginner.
-
Barefoot shoes are the best footwear. The bigger/thicker the shoe sole, the harder it is to balance. No Hoka’s!
-
If you have your own surfskate board and safety gear (helmet, elbow, wrist and knee pads) bring them with you and a water bottle. Surfskating can be thirsty work!
-
Safety gear is available for use. Depending on which pack or class you purchase, boards are provided or available for hire.
